Harold George Belafonte, Jr. (1 de marzo de 1927, Nueva York, Estados Unidos) es un músico, actor y activista social de ascendencia jamaicana. Conocido como el "Rey del Calypso" por popularizar este estilo musical caribeño de la década de los 50. Su canción más conocida (que le llevó al primer puesto en las listas de éxitos en 1957) tal vez sea "Day-O (Banana boat song"), que forma parte de la banda sonora de Beetlejuice, de Tim Burton, junto con "Shake señora". Harold George Belafonte, Jr. (born March 1, 1927 in New York, New York, United States) is an African-American musician, actor and social activist of Jamaican ancestry. One of the most successful Jamaican musicians in history, he was dubbed the "King of Calypso" for popularizing the Caribbean musical style in the 1950s. Belafonte is perhaps best known for singing the "Banana Boat Song", with its signature lyric "Day-O". Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for civil rights and humanitarian causes.
